Owk Reservoir
Owk Reservoir is an earthen dam built on the Paleru River near Owk in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Owk Reservoir is a balanced reservoir consisting of three smaller dams namely Paleru, Gollaleru, and Thimmaraju Cheruvu. with the purpose of storing water from the Srisailam Right Bank Canal (SRBC) for irrigation and flood control. The first Paleru and Thimmaraju Earth Dams are the tanks feeding water to Ovak village Ayakat of about 600 acres and 2000 acres respectively. These tanks were dammed up to a height of 220 feet and turned into Owk Reservoir. Now, the internal area of the reservoir is more than 1000 acres and it is the main source of irrigation in the Rayalaseema region and also provides drinking water facilities to the surrounding villages and towns.
The current water level in the reservoir is +216.300 and the water storage is 0.975 TMC. The total Capacity of the reservoir is 4.15.
Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for supply as well as installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the project. The instrumentation included:
- Piezometers - foundation and embankment
- Magnetic extensometers– vertical movement
- Water level indicators
