Owk Reservoir

Encardio Rite delivered crucial safety monitoring for the Owk Reservoir, located on the Paleru River in Andhra Pradesh. The reservoir, integral for irrigation and flood control, uses advanced geotechnical instruments such as piezometers for foundation and embankment stability, magnetic extensometers for vertical movement tracking, and water level indicators. This system ensures the long-term integrity of the reservoir, which serves the Rayalaseema region and surrounding towns by providing irrigation and drinking water.

Owk Reservoir

Owk Reservoir is an earthen dam built on the Paleru River near Owk in the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Owk Reservoir is a balanced reservoir consisting of three smaller dams, namely Paleru, Gollaleru, and Thimmaraju Cheruvu, to store water from the Srisailam Right Bank Canal (SRBC) for irrigation and flood control. The first Paleru and Thimmaraju Earth Dams are the tanks feeding water to Ovak village, Ayakat of about 600 acres and 2000 acres respectively. These tanks were dammed up to a height of 220 feet and turned into Owk Reservoir. Now, the internal area of the reservoir is more than 1000 acres, and it is the main source of irrigation in the Rayalaseema region, and also provides drinking water facilities to the surrounding villages and towns.

The current water level in the reservoir is +216.300, and the water storage is 0.975 TMC. The total Capacity of the reservoir is 4.15.

Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for the supply as well as the installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the project. The instrumentation included:
