Msheireb Station (Package 5), Major Stations, Doha Metro, Qatar

The Msheireb Station, a major interchange station in the Doha Metro, is the deepest metro excavation in the Middle East. Encardio Rite provided comprehensive instrumentation and monitoring services, including inclinometer systems, piezometers, load cells, and settlement monitoring. With real-time data acquisition, the system ensures precise monitoring of diaphragm walls, ground movement, and groundwater pressure, contributing to the station's successful construction and operational safety.

Msheireb Station (Package 5), Major Stations, Doha Metro, Qatar

The Msheireb Station serves as the heart of Phase 1 of the Doha Metro Project, as it is the major interchange station of three metro lines – with Red and Green Lines running parallel and the Gold Line situated underneath. It is the largest underground station in Doha, situated at the corner of the Msheireb Downtown Doha development.

Excavation for Msheireb Station, approximately 40 m below ground level, is one of the deepest excavations for metro in the Middle East so far; therefore, the instrumentation & monitoring work played an important role in the project.

Encardio-rite was awarded the subcontract to provide complete monitoring and surveying solutions for diaphragm walls, ground anchors, piles, groundwater, adjacent ground, and buildings, all falling within the zone of influence of the Msheireb Station and its west entrance structure.

The scope of work included the supply, installation, monitoring, and surveying, a spiral test for an inclinometer installed in soil, regular calibrations, setting up an online web-based data management system (WDMS), and maintenance during the contract period. Encardio Rite also executed a pre-construction condition survey for buildings within the zone of influence.

The monitoring program included instruments like inclinometers, in-place inclinometers, piezometers, surface settlement points, building settlement points, prism targets, tilt meters, crack meters, load cells, and automatic data loggers.

An experienced and proficient team worked on this project for almost 4 years. Monitoring reports included interpretations of variations observed in instrument data, mentioning factors likely to affect their behavior, e.g., construction, dewatering, third-party activities, etc. These reports were provided to the contractor regularly.
