Sewa-II hydroelectric power project

Sewa-II Hydro Power Project in Jammu & Kashmir features a 53-meter-high concrete gravity dam with a 120-MW capacity. Encardio-rite supplied and installed comprehensive safety monitoring instrumentation, including piezometers, uniaxial and triaxial joint meters, load cells, multipoint borehole extensometers, surface settlement points, and reflex targets. Monitoring covered the dam, powerhouse, headrace tunnel, and desilting chambers to ensure structural safety and operational reliability throughout the project lifecycle.

Sewa-II hydroelectric power project

Sewa-II is a hydroelectric power station located in the Mashka, Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir state. It is constructed by NHPC Limited on the Sewa River, a tributary of the Ravi River. It is a concrete gravity-type dam. The height & length of the dam are 53 m & 114 m. The Head race tunnel is horseshoe-shaped with a dia. of 3.3 m & a length is 10.084 km. The total length of the penstock is 826.06 m. The tailrace channel is an open channel with a size of  (3.5 × 4.55) m. TRC has three unit lengths of the units are 28 m,39 m & 50 m respectively. The output capacity of the project is 120 MW, i.e, (40×3) MW.

Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for supply as well as installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the Dam, powerhouse, headrace tunnel, and desilting chambers. The instrumentation included:

  • Borehole extensometer – multipoint
