The Kundah Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Project in Tamil Nadu is a major underground hydroelectric facility with 585 MW capacity. Encardio Rite provided complete safety monitoring instrumentation, including multi-point electrical borehole extensometers, load cells for rock bolts and anchors, pore pressure gauges, bi-reflex targets with break-off points, and convergence bolts. These instruments ensure real-time monitoring of structural stability and safety of underground components, supporting effective risk management throughout the project lifecycle.

Kundah Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Project is one of the biggest electricity-generating schemes in Tamil Nadu. It is located in the Bhavani River of Nilgiris district in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. It is an underground project as all the components are located underground. The installed capacity of the powerhouse is 585 MW.

Encardio-rite was awarded the complete contract for the supply as well as installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the project. The instrumentation included:

  • Borehole extensometer (Multi-point – electrical)
  • Load cell suitable for rock bolts/anchors 
  • Pore pressure gauge
  • Bi-reflex targets with break-off points and convergence bolts
  • Readout unit
