Kameng Hydroelectric Plant
Kameng Hydro-electric Project (600 MW) is situated in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. It is a run of the river project which will utilize the water flows from Bichom and Tenga Rivers (both tributaries of the River Kameng) over a gross head of 536 m available in downstream of the confluence of the River Bichom with Kameng.
The Project consists of two dams i.e. Bichom & Tenga and water is transported through a Head Race Tunnel (HRT) & HPT / Penstock into the Kimi Power House for driving four vertical Frances turbines,150 MW each. Bichom dam consists of a 69 m high and 264.15 m long concrete gravity dam located on the river Bichom with a design flood discharge of 9,215 m3/s over an Ogee-shaped sluice spillway with six radial gates. Tenga dam consists of 24.5 m high and 103 m long Concrete Gravity Dam located on the river Tenga with a flat crest concrete spillway incorporating two radial gates.
Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for supply as well as installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for Bichom Dam, Tenga Dam, and Kimi powerhouse slope monitoring. The instrumentation included hundreds of geotechnical sensors and geodetic targets including:
- Piezometers
- Uplift pressure meter with pressure gauges
- Total pressure cells
- Strain gauges – rosette with no stress-strain meter
- Linear joint meters
- Temperature meters
- Load cells
- Borehole extensometers (multi-point – electrical)
- Water level measuring systems
- Standpipe piezometers
- Water level sounders
- Plumb Lines – normal and inverted
- Automatic weather station
- Dataloggers with wireless data transmission
- Strong motion accelerograph
- Settlement points – crest and surface
- Bi-reflex targets
