Gurudeshwar Weir
Gurudeshwar weir is situated on the Narmada River near the Statue of Unity in Bharuch district in Gujrat. Garudeshwar Dam is proposed as part of the power component of the Sardar Sarovar (Narmada) dam project to act as downstream storage. The water from the weir will be pumped back into the dam and sent again through turbines to generate power. The weir will facilitate power production during peak hours with the help of reversible turbines at the dam. The reservoir formed will also provide a navigation channel of 7 km for ferry service from the Shreshtha Bharat Bhawan to the Statue of Unity.
The Garudeshwar Dam has a huge 12 km-long reservoir with a live storage capacity of 32.9 million cubic meters; the dam's height is 31.5 m.
Encardio-rite was awarded the sub-contract for supply and the installation of safety monitoring instrumentation for the project. The instrumentation included :
- Temperature meter
- Uplift pressure cells
- joint meters
- Portable Readout units
