Adventure Centre at Jebel Jais
The UAE’s high peak, Jebel Jais, is part of the spectacular Hajar mountain range, which was formed over 70 million years ago in the eastern part of Ras Al Khaimah, UAE, and Oman. Towering at 1934 m above sea level, Jebel Jais provides breathtaking vistas and thrilling adventures for every visitor.
The current condition of the Adventure Centre at Jebel Jais needed to be evaluated before remedial works, for which monitoring instruments were required. The purpose of instrumentation and monitoring included:
- To measure and monitor the magnitude and direction of ground movements.
- To measure and monitor the magnitude and direction of movement of foundation structures.
- To measure and monitor the existing crack widths.
Encardio Rite’s sister concern, Rite Geosystems LLC in UAE, was awarded an I&M sub-contract for the turnkey monitoring solutions that included:
- Supply installation and monitoring of geotechnical and geodetic instruments
- Establishment, maintenance, and measurements of the survey network, including leveling.
- Daily & weekly reporting with evaluation & Interpretation
Instrumentation used at the project included:
- Inclinometers - Used around the structure, to measure the sub-surface lateral displacement
- Crack meters – Used on existing structures to measure displacements of existing structural defects
- Surface/Foundation settlement points – Used on foundation structure and ground to measure surface settlement
