One of the first things that comes up in your imagination while talking about Singapore is the stunning building of Marina Bay Sands Hotel. Owned by Las Vegas Sands Corporation, Marina Bay Sands Hotel was opened in 2010. Said to be the world’s most expensive standalone casino property, this resort is one for the books.
Marina Bay Sands Hotel, Singapore is a unique resort that features 2,561 hotel rooms, a 120,000-square-metre convention-exhibition center, the 74,000-square-metre “The Shoppes” at Marina Bay Sands mall, a museum, a large theatre, celebrity-chef restaurants, two floating crystal pavilions, art-science exhibits, and the world’s largest atrium casino with 500 tables and 1,600 slot machines.
Fun fact, The resort was designed by Moshe Safdie who was actually inspired by the card decks. Can you imagine a deck of cards to be the muse of a renowned architect? Very interesting! The best features of the whole building are the towers. These three hotel towers are a trademark feature of Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
Let’s now understand the purpose of monitoring the Marina Bay Sands hotel.
Purpose of Monitoring Marina Bay Sands Hotel
An ambitiously built structure, Marina Bay Sands was one of the most challenging construction projects in the world due to its architectural design and soil conditions. It is an engineering marvel consisting of 3 towers 200 m above the sea and a Skypark that spans from tower to tower and cantilevers 65 m beyond.
The complex curvature of the towers, excavating six levels into the water table in a highly unstable landfill, and retaining the water and soil pressure while the foundation and basement levels were constructed were a few of the construction challenges. The Marina Bay area has undergone several reclamation phases.

Monitoring Solutions Offered to Marina Bay Sands Hotel
Encardio Rite is proud to be associated with this landmark of a project and was awarded the monitoring services for the Marina Bay Sands Hotel Tower through an associate. We supplied hundreds of geotechnical instruments including
300 tilt sensors, 400 strain gauges, 400 temperature sensors, and a number of displacement sensors & load cells along with technical support for installation. The real-time web-based data monitoring services were provided by our marketing Associate Syseng (s) Pte. Ltd., Singapore project. The data monitoring frequency was at every 10 minutes during the critical construction phase.
Encardio Rite’s tilt meters, used in the project, consisted of biaxial tilt sensors housed in stainless steel rugged cylindrical body. These were installed at different levels to monitor the structural movements. The Strain gauges, temperature sensors, displacement sensors, and load cells were used for cast-in, post-tensioning, and strut monitoring.
